THE HISTORY OF BIMOCOHT

A critical examination of our educational standard in the various institutions of learning in Nigeria today would reveal a chaotic situation in which most of the students do not know their expected roles, duties, obligations and goals. And in such a confused atmosphere, one could imagine the type of poorly trained students that will be graduating annually from various institutions across the nation. This call for a holistic approach to develop strategic plan that is focused on promoting excellence in educational development as well as to provide a fair, safe and supportive environment for studies and social life.

Therefore, it is at this detoriating state of some of the college of healths that made the visionary leader, Very Rev. Fr. Vincent Odom, who dimed it fit to establish the first college of health owned by the Catholic mission in Ebonyi State.

BIMOCOHT is an acronym for Bishop Michael Okoro College of Health Technology. The College, which is located in Ndubia Igbeagu, Izzi Local Government area of Ebonyi state was established in the year 2019 under the auspices of Very Rev. Fr. Vincent Odom, the Parish Priest of St. John the Baptist Parish Ndubia and the administrator of St. Vincent's Hospital Ndubia which was founded in the year 1963 by Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Mc Gettrick the erstwhile Bishop of Ogoja Diocese who later became the Priest Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese when it was created in the year 1973.

The journey of this great award-wining college began when the erstwhile visionary, foresighted and zealous leader, Very Rev. Fr. Vincent Odom thought it wise to establish Bishop Michael Okoro College of Health Technology with the view of providing training for the low and middle level manpower in the various fields of health care system. He worked tirelessly and with encouragement of his Lordship Most Rev. Dr. Michael Okoro, his parishioners and friends. This dream came true as the college academic activities for 2020/2021 kicked off in October, 2020 with the solemn blessing of the school by the Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese.

Therefore, BIMOCOHT now stands as the only college of Health Technology belonging to Abakaliki Diocese. This will no doubt help to alleviate the menace of quackery in the area of health care delivery, especially in the rural area.
